Eric Maillet, one of the most appreciated international photographers of still life and beauty, was inspired by the ordinary bottom of a plastic bottle, the transparency of water and his lens to create a powerful image where to lose oneself. Plastic Drop combines an element of nature with that of a daily object in a symphonic relationship between form and colour.  Nature has always been at the centre of Maillet's personal research and water, in its versatility, his main source of inspiration. The artist collected an infinite number of plastic bottles from around the world. A natural gesture to preserve the environment and protect it. He observes the object projected by a ray of light and captures the mutation of the reflection and its aesthetic. Plastic bottle bottoms are transformed with imagination, an illusion tries to identify something recognizable but not comprehensible. The images are oversized to the extreme, and the use of the back light effect, the technique of the black background, triggers a visual suggestion. The series of monochromes is a succession of colour vibrations, a rhythmic and almost hypnotic sequence. The bottoms become abstract shapes, celestial bodies, precious gems, a kaleidoscope that rotates from shades of red, orange, green, blue, purple to the crystalline effect. Colour is thus an essential element of this collection where the action of light, merging with plastic and water, generates a new appearance to the object.

ERIC MAILLET

Eric Maillet (1957 Dieppe, town of upper Normandy - 2021 Paris) He was an internationally renowned photographer who worked for the most important luxury brands and stood out for the originality, beauty and delicacy of the themes on which he focused his personal projects. He spent his youth in Normandy, near the sea, starting very early to observe with interest nature, beauty and the magic of light, themes that will become the focus of his work as a photographer. In 1980 he moved to Paris and began working as an assistant to a still life photographer and three years later he opened his first studio. Over the years his style is influenced by the work of Brodovitch and Rodchenko: revealing the beauty, fragility, and generosity of nature through photographic images becomes his motif, maturing a particular interest in water, which in Maillet's eyes is the perfect muse. During his career he has created advertising campaigns for the most renowned fashion houses such as Cartier, Dior, Lancôme, Yves Saint Laurent, Giorgio Armani, Roberto Cavalli, Salvatore Ferragamo, Fendi, just to name a few, and important fashion magazines such as Numéro, Vogue France, Vogue China, Mixt(e), Vogue Gioiello, Glamour Italia and many others. He exhibited in Italy and abroad in some of the most prestigious contexts dedicated to fine art photography, such as the Paris Photo at the Grand Palais in Paris in 2015 and in that same year at the Exhibition Center of Palazzo Pirelli.
