For sea lovers
Would you like to discover the heart of the Chianti Classico, following the Italian myth from the XIII century?
We leave early in the morning from Marina di Scarlino, direction Florence, to reach the wine town Impruneta with its Santa Maria Sanctuary.
After Strada in Chianti, following the SS 222 direction Siena, we arrive in Greve in Chianti, with its beautiful medieval square and historic cellars, fit for a tasting of the best vintages.
For a medieval feel, we continue to Montefioralle, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, and walk along its quiet streets and ancient vineyards. This charming land holds endless surprises: after only a few kilometers we are in Volpaia, a perfectly preserved medieval village, famous for its castle and the magnificent wine cellar (in May the village is filled with the fragrance of thousands of roses).
After Radda in Chianti, home of the Chianti Classico Consortium, our final stop takes us to the 11th century church of San Giusto in Salcio.
A day filled with endless impressions of beauty.
As a first taste of Maremma, we suggest Scarlino, a small charming medieval village on Monte d’Alma, with a view of the blue sea. Located just a few minutes from the Marina di Scarlino Yacht Club & Residences, Scarlino’s history is linked to the noble Aldobrandeschi family, dating back to the eleventh century.
Walk along its medieval walls to the imposing Rocca Aldobrandesca castle, stroll through ancient streets and encounter the Romanesque atmosphere of the San Donato church, cited in 1188.
The elegant Cala Felice Beach Club, right next door to the Marina di Scarlino, allows maximum relaxation in the sun. If you are inspired by the adventurous spirit of the sea, rent a boat and discover the Cala Violina, an enchanting beach of the Maremma Grossetana, only a few minutes by boat. The beach owes its name to the delicate, violin-like sound you hear when walking quietly on the fine sand of this beautiful cove. Cala Violina may not be reached by car, but you may use the boat shuttle service during summer time. You may also reach Cala Violina by foot, following a lovely 4 km long trail, departing from the Cantuccio Restaurant, Località il Puntone, Lungomare Garibaldi, direction Porto Turistico. The trail no. 1 starts after the barrier bar and after 2 km’s along the Mediterranean sea, you will reach the rocky coves and the sea-green, transparent waters of the Cala Francese and the Cala Martina. From here it’s another 2 km’s to reach the enchanting Cala Violina.
Every day, the outline of the island of Elba on the horizon of the Marina di Scarlino is a breathtaking spectacle. A sunrise that promises exciting moments, sailing amidst the seven wonders of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park.
A pure paradise with crystal clear waters, a seabed calling for treasure hunts, divine beaches, wildlife and a testimony of living history. Would you like to linger at the lovely Capo d’Enfola, or do you prefer to discover the places on the island of Elba, where Napoleon spent his exile in 1814? Do you want to sail further?
Endless choices await you. The island of Giannutri with its deep waters, Giglio and the island of Montecristo from the novel of Alexandre Dumas, Capraia, famous for its Roman settlement and the monastery, and Pianosa and Gorgona, mentioned in the thirty-third canto of the Inferno of Dante Alighieri, dedicated to the tragic figure of Ugolino della Gherardesca.
An authentic journey through time and the beauty of Tuscany. Driving towards the city of Siena, an Unesco World Heritage Site, and a pearl of art, culture, and unique flavors, it’s only an hour and a half from the Marina di Scarlino to the Piazza del Campo.
Our first stop includes the magnificent fresco of the Good and Bad Government by Ambrogio Lorenzetti in 1337 at the City Hall. Or do you prefer the Majesty of Duccio, in the Cathedral Museum of the Duomo?
If you are lucky to visit Siena on July 2 or August 16, you will experience the famous Palio di Siena. Fall in love with one of the richest and most beautiful lands of Italy: the south of Siena awaits you with its Renaissance wonders of Pienza and its fabulous wines, the Super Tuscans of Montalcino and Montepulciano. Towards the north, there’s the breathtaking beauty of the Monteriggioni castle, built by the Sienese in the early thirteenth century, the Colle Val d’Elsa, an ancient town on Via Francigena, and San Gimignano, the Manhattan of the Middle Ages with amazing towers that touch the medieval sky.

One last highlight before we go back to the seaside: dedicate an hour to the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum with its extraordinary creations of shoes for Greta Garbo, Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, and Audrey Hepburn. And, if you’d like, the creations are made available also for you, through the “Vintage” line by Salvatore Ferragamo.
