The Chianti Road

Would you like to discover the heart of the Chianti Classico, following the Italian myth from the XIII century?

We leave early in the morning from Marina di Scarlino, direction Florence, to reach the wine town Impruneta with its Santa Maria Sanctuary.

After Strada in Chianti, following the SS 222 direction Siena, we arrive in Greve in Chianti, with its beautiful medieval square and historic cellars, fit for a tasting of the best vintages.

For a medieval feel, we continue to Montefioralle, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, and walk along its quiet streets and ancient vineyards. This charming land holds endless surprises: after only a few kilometers we are in Volpaia, a perfectly preserved medieval village, famous for its castle and the magnificent wine cellar (in May the village is filled with the fragrance of thousands of roses).

After Radda in Chianti, home of the Chianti Classico Consortium, our final stop takes us to the 11th century church of San Giusto in Salcio.

A day filled with endless impressions of beauty.

As a first taste of Maremma, we suggest Scarlino, a small charming medieval village on Monte d’Alma, with a view of the blue sea. Located just a few minutes from the Marina di Scarlino Yacht Club & Residences, Scarlino’s history is linked to the noble Aldobrandeschi family, dating back to the eleventh century.

Walk along its medieval walls to the imposing Rocca Aldobrandesca castle, stroll through ancient streets and encounter the Romanesque atmosphere of the San Donato church, cited in 1188.

Cala Violina

The elegant Cala Felice Beach Club, right next door to the Marina di Scarlino, allows maximum relaxation in the sun. If you are inspired by the adventurous spirit of the sea, rent a boat and discover the Cala Violina, an enchanting beach of the Maremma Grossetana, only a few minutes by boat. The beach owes its name to the delicate, violin-like sound you hear when walking quietly on the fine sand of this beautiful cove. Cala Violina may not be reached by car, but you may use the boat shuttle service during summer time. You may also reach Cala Violina by foot, following a lovely 4 km long trail, departing from the Cantuccio Restaurant, Località il Puntone, Lungomare Garibaldi, direction Porto Turistico. The trail no. 1 starts after the barrier bar and after 2 km’s along the Mediterranean sea, you will reach the rocky coves and the sea-green, transparent waters of the Cala Francese and the Cala Martina. From here it’s another 2 km’s to reach the enchanting Cala Violina.

Tuscan Archipelago

Every day, the outline of the island of Elba on the horizon of the Marina di Scarlino is a breathtaking spectacle.  A sunrise that promises exciting moments, sailing amidst the seven wonders of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park.

A pure paradise with crystal clear waters, a seabed calling for treasure hunts, divine beaches, wildlife and a testimony of living history. Would you like to linger at the lovely Capo d’Enfola, or do you prefer to discover the places on the island of Elba, where Napoleon spent his exile in 1814? Do you want to sail further?

Endless choices await you. The island of Giannutri with its deep waters, Giglio and the island of Montecristo from the novel of Alexandre Dumas, Capraia, famous for its Roman settlement and the monastery, and Pianosa and Gorgona, mentioned in the thirty-third canto of the Inferno of Dante Alighieri, dedicated to the tragic figure of Ugolino della Gherardesca.

Siena And Surroundings

An authentic journey through time and the beauty of Tuscany. Driving towards the city of Siena, an Unesco World Heritage Site, and a pearl of art, culture, and unique flavors, it’s only an hour and a half from the Marina di Scarlino to the Piazza del Campo.

Our first stop includes the magnificent fresco of the Good and Bad Government by Ambrogio Lorenzetti in 1337 at the City Hall. Or do you prefer the Majesty of Duccio, in the Cathedral Museum of the Duomo?

If you are lucky to visit Siena on July 2 or August 16, you will experience the famous Palio di Siena. Fall in love with one of the richest and most beautiful lands of Italy: the south of Siena awaits you with its Renaissance wonders of Pienza and its fabulous wines, the Super Tuscans of Montalcino and Montepulciano. Towards the north, there’s the breathtaking beauty of the Monteriggioni castle, built by the Sienese in the early thirteenth century, the Colle Val d’Elsa, an ancient town on Via Francigena, and San Gimignano, the Manhattan of the Middle Ages with amazing towers that touch the medieval sky.

Maremma Experience

Maremma is considered one of the most alluring treasures of Italy, offering a diversity of nature, history, art, architecture and outstanding gastronomy. Beautifully located by the sea, the Marina di Scarlino Yacht Club & Residences is your perfect starting point to discover this paradise.

Go back to the beginning of Italian civilization, to the Etruscans, one of the most mysterious and fascinating peoples of the Mediterranean. The journey takes you through necropoles and ancient villages perched on rocky tuff, such as Pitigliano, also known as “Little Jerusalem”, Sovana with its magnificent eleventh century Cathedral, and Sorano, a delightful maze of alleys, courtyards and lodges carved into the rock. All this history awaits you, just a few kilometers away.

An unforgettable experience?
Discover the Etruscan Museum Guarnacci in Volterra, and immerse yourself in the “Shadow of the Evening”, so called by Gabriele D’Annunzio, followed by a visit to the close by Pinacoteca, which offers an insight into the Mannerism  period with the “Descent from the Cross”, a masterpiece from 1521 by Rosso Fiorentino.

An oasis of relaxation?
The famous Terme di Saturnia, just a few miles from Scarlino, were appreciated already by the ancient Romans. Indulge in the warm thermal waters and enter a world of wellness and relaxation.

Roman Passion?
Not far away from the Scarlino Yacht Marina & Residences, lies the town of Massa Marittima and the Cathedral of San Cerbone, home to the moving Maesta, attributed to Duccio di Buoninsegna (1316). A little further, you find the interesting Fonti dell’Abbondanza, the oldest water source of Massa Marittima, with the peculiar fresco “Tree of Fertility” from 1265 on its walls, a place of pilgrimage for expectant mothers.

Did you know that the Natural Park of Maremma, with its wild and unspoiled stretches of woods, pine forests, pastures and white sandy beaches, has been awarded with the European Diploma of Protected Areas? Did you know that 9800 acres of pure heaven and Mediterranean Sea are at your disposal for wonderful walks, cycling and horse riding between Principina and Talamone? An oasis of beauty with hidden works of art and invitingly beautiful landscape. Like the fascinating Abbey of San Rabano, an ancient Benedictine monastery, left to the Jerusalem Knights. Your adventures start right here.

Truly magnificent at every time of the year and a perfect addition to your life at sea. A day at the museums? The works of the great artists are found at the Uffizi, from Giotto and Botticelli, Leonardo and Michelangelo, to Titian. For a more intimate and meditative visit, immerge in the silence of the Convent of San Marco, a precious jewel with works of Fra Angelico (if you love Savonarola, do not miss the opportunity to visit his cell). For Raphael lovers, the Pitti Palace is your place to be. Or you just take it slow and enjoy a romantic walk along the river Arno, the Ponte Vecchio and the Boboli Gardens, finishing with a visit to a masterpiece of Italian style and elegance: Via Tornabuoni with its wonderful fashion boutiques.

One last highlight before we go back to the seaside: dedicate an hour to the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum with its extraordinary creations of shoes for Greta Garbo, Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, and Audrey Hepburn. And, if you’d like, the creations are made available also for you, through the “Vintage” line by Salvatore Ferragamo.

Boat tours

Our team  is at hand to organize memorable excursions to discover the beautiful gulf of Marina di Scarlino in Tuscany by sea.

  • A relaxing day at the private beach of Cala Felice in Tuscany.

Maremma Wine

Wine culture belongs to one of the great treasures of Tuscany, particularly of the Maremma. The charming Strada del Vino e dei Sapori Colli di Maremma (wine and culinary route) winds through the natural beauty of the province of Grosseto, only a stone’s throw away from the Marina di Scarlino. An extraordinarily rich gastronomic itinerary of thirteen municipalities: Campagnatico, Capalbio, Grosseto, Isola del Giglio, Magliano in Toscana, Manciano, Monte Argentario, Orbetello, Pitigliano, Roccalbegna, Scansano, and Semproniano. Extraordinary wines, such as the Morellino, the Bianco di Pitigliano, the white and red Montecucco wines, the Novello and the Vin Santo Monteregio of Massa Marittima, the Parrina Rosato and the Sovana Rosso Riserva. Indulge in a wine tasting and an unforgettable encounter of tastes and flavors.

Yacht Solleone

The Swan 90 Solleone is a spectacularly beautiful yacht designed by the prestigious Finnish Nautor’s Swan shipyard, which is owned by Leonardo Ferragamo.

Experience the elegance of a thirty feet luxury sailing yacht with its impressive interior designed by the Florentine architect Michele Bönan.

We are delighted to make the yacht available to guests of the Marina di Scarlino Yacht Club & Suites for magnificent Mediterranean yacht cruises accompanied by outstanding skippers.

If your passion is golf, the magnificent 18-hole Golf Club Il Pelagone, awaits you just a few minutes from Marina di Scarlino with one of the most beautiful golf courses of Tuscany and panoramic views over the hills of Maremma. The convenient driving range helps you prepare for a satisfying sporting event
