The initiative, now in its fourth edition, proposes a path uniting the façade of the hotel and the entire surrounding urban area: externally, giant windmills are a reminder towards the awareness of renewable and sustainable energy sources; internally: a retrospective with photographs and objects of the Milanese author.
WOW. The windmill for energy is the new project of Simone D'Auria
The large windmills bring awareness to renewable and sustainable energy sources where wind and clean energy may be obtained by exploiting this atmospheric phenomenon. A work that combines irony and social awareness, communicated with a simple and direct language and that wants to stimulate those passing to use renewable energy sources in a conscious way.
WOW arrives at the Gallery Hotel Art, after its façade had hosted Cycling up in 2013, with a long row of giant bicycles which represented the adventure of humanity always projected to the future, Personal/Unpersonal in 2014, with a long row of manikins, each with a different animal head to retrace, through their symbols, the history of the great Florentine characters, and Spoon in 2015, Year of the Expo, with huge spoons - and ‘Bruno’ spoon – reminding us of the theme “Feed the Planet, Energy for Life” addressed by the Universal Exhibition and at the same time, honoring the designer Bruno Munari.
Red is the color code that accompanies the entire initiative and that represents one of the stylistic elements Simone D'Auria uses throughout his works of art, in particular those produced in previous installations commissioned by Lungarno Collection. Recounting the previous editions, taking place within the Gallery Hotel Art, a retrospective of the artist through 12 photographs in collaboration with Leica.
The project is completed, in the Vicolo Dell’Oro square, with two huge pots and sprouting windmills, as well as a three dimensional WOW in red stimulating the exclamation of happiness and wonder that seizes the spectator in front of the artwork, at the same time, strengthening the awareness toward a theme so important and decisive for the future of the planet.
